Daily English Vocabulary - 2

Hi!

We come across some typical vocabulary while reading any article, editorial or any kind of news edition. I am here to present you some good set of words along with their figurative explanations. 

Here are the new set of words extracted from The Hindu daily news paper.

Read and Memorize and Apply them to your daily conversation.



Turmoil: a state of confusion or disorder or uncertainty


Example sentence: 
As soon as the gun-carrying man entered the restaurant, turmoil broke out as customers screamed and dived for the floor.
Janet and her family moved to the country in hopes of avoiding the turmoil of city life.

Example sentence:

Example sentence:
Gary’s ostensible purpose for calling his mother was to see how she was doing, but she soon figured out that he needed money again.
The ostensible reason for his absence was illness, but everyone knew he'd gone to a football match.

Heralda person who brings news or announces something; be a sign that (something) is about to happen

Noisomehaving an extremely offensive smell

Noisome from a pair of socks

Example sentence:
As soon as the police arrived on the scene, they became aware of the noisome odor of a gas leak.
When we walked into the restaurant, we were overwhelmed by the noisome odor of old fish.

Clamorousmaking a loud and confused noise

Could you please reduce the volume?

Example sentence:
As soon as the home team scored, the fans became clamorous in their excitement.
Because the workers were upset about pay cuts, they were very clamorous during their protest.

Dodgeavoid (someone or something) by a sudden quick movement.

Man dodging bull..

Example sentence:
I managed to leap aside and dodge the bite.
His car almost hit me but I dodge it.
